Fresh dog food delivery service, Ollie, is for dogs, but my cat had to have a sniff!

Ollie -Fresh Pet Food Delivery Service Review

When a fresh pet food delivery service called Ollie asked me if I’d like to try their product, I said heck yeah, because I knew I was going to have one happy pup on my hands!

My 7-year old, poodle/terrier mix, Riley, has ONE goal – and that is to eat the cats’ wet food any chance he gets. He has a lot of food allergies that affect his skin, and he was recently diagnosed with Cushings disease. Because of this, we normally feed him a bison/sweet potato kibble mix (he doesn’t do well with too much fish or chicken). I think he gets tired of it, so we tried supplementing with the wet food version, but he was still much more interested in what the cats were eating.

I checked out what Ollie had to offer, and I was impressed. They make their dog food in small batches – in a human grade facility in New Jersey. They use low cooking temperatures to keep as many nutrients as possible in the food. They use high quality meat and veggies, with no unnecessary fillers. They add nutrients when necessary to meet the nutritional levels established by the AAFCO Dog Food Nutrient Profiles for All Life Stages (which also means they do not test on animals!).

So, for Riley, I chose the Hearty Beef Eats option, which has beef, sweet potatoes, peas, potatoes, carrots, spinach, chia seeds, blueberries, and some added vitamins and minerals. When the box arrived, I could tell he just KNEW it was for him (not sure how since everything was frozen and well-sealed)! Click here to see how they make the food.

The box arrived with several trays of food, and all were frozen. So I followed the directions and put all but one into the freezer. I put one into the fridge to defrost for the next day. When it was breakfast time, I wanted to take some photos, so I may have teased Riley a bit. He was NOT in a mood to wait, and begged me to put the camera down and FEED HIM THIS AMAZING FOOD RIGHT NOW!

I gave him his bowl of food (two scoops for his body weight), and I have never seen him that happy! OMG – he was in heaven! He loved it and licked the bowl clean. I have been feeding it to him for a few days now, and he’s just as excited every time. Now, he finally eats HIS food before he worries about what the cats are eating. It’s just that good. And I feel good about feeding it to him.

I was worried that feeding him this way would become a chore for me. I didn’t want to have to wash and dry stuff every day (hey man – I’m busy!). Turns out – it’s super easy. This is a small thing, but I mention it because it matters to me. The plastic scoop only needs a quick rinse after serving. The food doesn’t stick to it, so it really doesn’t need any scrubbing. I’ll scrub it every now and then, but I’m happy I don’t have to do it every time. They also give you a plastic tray cover, so you can pop the food back into the fridge without worrying about tin foil or plastic bags.

One tray lasts Riley (who is about 20 lbs) about a day and a half (I feed 2 scoops in the morning and 2 at night). The cost of feeding this “real food” is not exactly cheap, but I want to keep my baby around for as long as possible, so I will go the extra mile when I can. The other option Ollie offers is to buy a smaller quantity and mix it with the kibble. That may be the option my husband I choose long-term, because it’s more affordable.

So Riley and I are very pleased with the service. OH! And they donate a portion of proceeds to animal charities, which makes us both happy. I really love this service, and if you’re a dog-mom or dog-dad, I think you will too! Wanna try it? Use this link to get 50% off your first box!
